My name is Anna, and I am a Galway-based artist. My background spans fine art, art teaching, and art therapy, but above all, art is my passion and my way of life.
I am endlessly fascinated by paper—its texture, its versatility, and its expressive potential. Over time, I discovered my unique artistic language through quilling, a paper technique that involves rolling and shaping strips of paper and assembling them to form an image. I’ve transformed this traditionally decorative craft into a contemporary art form: I paint with paper.
My work blends traditional art foundations with a modern, intuitive approach. Guided by inner voice and emotion, I draw inspiration from heritage, nature, and the beauty of human connection.
My pieces have been showcased in national and international exhibitions, art fairs, galleries, cafés, and across Irish local markets. My work has been published in Artist's Eye on Galway (2022) and Artist's Eye on Kerry (2023).
I have created multiple art projects for Cruinniú na nÓg, funded and featured by Creative Ireland and Galway City Council in 2023, 2024, and 2025. In 2025, my work for Irish Design Week was also featured and funded by the Design & Craft Council Ireland.
I am a professional member of Visual Artists Ireland and the Design & Craft Council Ireland.
Every artwork begins with inspiration—a spark of creativity that ignites the artist's imagination. Inspiration can come from anywhere: a fleeting moment of beauty, a powerful emotion, or the wonders of the natural world. It's the starting point that sets the artistic journey in motion.
Once inspired, I begin shaping the vision in my mind—imagining how colour, form, and paper texture can work together to express a mood or atmosphere. Because quilling is sculptural as much as it is visual, this stage involves sketching outlines, choosing palettes, and planning the flow of movement within the piece.
I explore how the paper will curve, twist, spiral, or layer to capture light and emotion. Every artwork is carefully thought out, yet guided by intuition; the concept evolves as I experiment with shapes and composition, allowing the piece to find its own natural rhythm.
